What are spider veins?
Also called telangiectasias, spider veins are often blue, red, or purple, and most often found on the face and legs. Broken capillaries can appear for a number of different reasons, most often caused by increased pressure in the veins. Now you can stop struggling to cover them up because laser and IPL (intense pulsed light) can banish broken facial capillaries.
How Laser Vein Therapy is Performed
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. Our medical aesthetics nurse and laser technician uses a laser to send strong bursts of light into the vein, which causes the blood in the vein to coagulate which will eventually destroy the vessel making the vein fade and disappear over time. You may briefly feel a warm or hot snapping sensation as the laser pulses are absorbed by the unwanted vessels. The body naturally reabsorbs the pooled blood and redirects future blood flow to veins deeper below the skin. Treatments are virtually painless, if you have sensitive skin, we may apply a numbing cream to the area to avoid discomfort. Treatments may take approximately 30 minutes to an hour. The time required will depend on your skin type, the extent of the condition, the number of areas treated, and the sizes of those areas.
Recovery Expectations
There is little to no downtime with laser treatment, however it is recommended that any vigorous activity be avoided for the first 24 hours after. The treated area will become temporarily pink, resembling a cat scratch. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light, and you must avoid direct sun exposure. You need to cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors. Results will be slightly visible at the time of treatment and will significantly improve with 2 to 6 weeks of the treatment. Typically 2-3 treatments are required.

Those little red, purple, or blue veins you see – usually on your legs – are spider veins. They are broken capillaries that break, usually due to pressure in your veins. Treatments can take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of veins you need to treat. Treatment is virtually painless, and most people can continue with their day right after treatment.
